Board Corps members are parents or guardians of current, incoming, or graduated SPS students, SPS alumns, or community leaders invested in the success of our public education system. Fundamental is every Corps’ members’ commitment to be an unbiased, objective observer of Seattle School Board governance. Board Corps works to support good governance practices in SPS and share information with the broader public.
How it Works
- Volunteers will receive a two-hour training where you’ll learn about the Core Characteristics of Effective School Boards, review this training manual and learn how to fill out the Board Corps evaluation form.
- OSC staff will collect and monitor the information from the evaluation forms.
- The information from the evaluation forms will be translated into a grade for each of the indicators of effective school board governance and an overall grade.
- When SPS students receive their report card, so does the school board. Recommendations to improve school board governance will accompany the report card.
